George M. Tharakan, CFA
Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Tharakan was a Principal with Santa Barbara Asset Management (2003-2009), where he was Director of Research, Portfolio Manager, and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Mr. Tharakan was instrumental in institutionalizing SBAM’s investment process, which enabled additional growth through institutional channels for the firm. As director of research, he oversaw the investment process for SBAM and was a member of the Investment Committee managing over $4 Billion in assets. He was previously a Senior Vice President at Vantis Capital, and prior to that he was a Senior Vice President at Roxbury Capital Management, and a Senior Design Engineer for Intel Corporation. George is an Honors graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, has an M.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, and received an MBA in Finance, with Honors, from the Anderson School of Business (UCLA) and is a member of the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts.
L. John Murphy, CFA
Prior to co-founding Alamar Capital Management, LLC, Mr. Murphy was the founder of Sycamore Advisors, a consulting firm to boutique investment management firms (2008-2010). John was previously a Principal and Managing Director with Santa Barbara Asset Management (2001-2008), where he was a Client Portfolio Manager, a member of the Executive Committee, and developed and managed the firm’s Institutional Marketing and Client Service effort. Prior to that, John was with Canterbury Consulting, an institutional pension consulting firm. John has a B.S. in International Relations from California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo and an MBA in Finance from University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. He is a CFA charter holder and a member of the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts.
Christopher D. Crawshaw, CFA
Prior to joining Alamar Mr. Crawshaw served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Advisory Research, Inc. (ARI), the asset management division of Piper Jaffray (NYSE: PJC). Over his 18 years at ARI, Chris served as head of distribution and client service in addition to several operational and management roles before assuming the CEO position. Chris served on the Leadership Team for PJC in addition to Chair of the Executive Management Committee at ARI. For the last several years, Chris also served on the Risk Management Committee for ARI. He also served on the Piper Jaffray Community Foundation Board. Prior to ARI, Chris began his career in the investment consulting industry and has been practicing in the investment management industry since 1989. Chris is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and holds a B.A. in finance from the University of Tulsa in addition to an M.B.A. in finance from DePaul University. He is a registered NASD Series 7, 24, and 65. He is a Member of the Executive Advisory Board of Collins College of Business at the University of Tulsa.
